How to File a Consumer Court Complaint Online in India (2026)
Published: · By Arjun Mehta, Consumer Rights Researcher | AutoComplaint
TL;DR: Consumer court cases are filed online on e-Jagriti. Pick the Commission by claim value (up to Rs 50 lakh District, Rs 50 lakh to Rs 2 crore State, above Rs 2 crore National), file within two years of the cause of action, and pay no fee for claims up to Rs 5 lakh. A lawyer is optional. For smaller e-commerce disputes, the National Consumer Helpline is usually the faster first step.
Should You Go to Consumer Court or the Helpline First?
A Consumer Commission issues a binding, enforceable order but takes months and needs a properly drafted complaint and affidavit. The National Consumer Helpline is pre-litigation mediation with no paperwork and no fee, and it resolves a large share of e-commerce disputes. For a stuck refund or an undelivered order, start there.

6 Steps to File a Consumer Court Case Online
- Exhaust pre-litigation redressal. Send the seller a written notice and, where relevant, file an NCH grievance. Keep the ticket ID and docket record.
- Identify the right Commission. Jurisdiction follows the amount paid, and you may file where you reside or work, which is a key change under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
- Register on e-Jagriti. Create a consumer account with mobile and email, verified by OTP.
- Draft the complaint and affidavit. Name the parties, set out the facts with dates and amounts, describe the defect or deficiency in service, and state the relief claimed such as refund, replacement, or compensation.
- Upload documents and pay the fee. Invoice, payment proof, warranty, correspondence, and the notice. Claims up to Rs 5 lakh carry no fee; higher slabs pay online.
- Track the case and attend hearings. Save the case number, follow listings on e-Jagriti, and attend in person or by video conference.

- NCH docket details, if you filed there first
Prepare a Cleaner Complaint in 60 Seconds
Most cases fail on messy facts, not on law.
